London Christmas Lights
Quick Facts
ADI's big screens were joined by stars of the big screen for the London Christmas lights switch on.
Disney's latest animated epic A Christmas Carol took over the streets of central London for one of the capital's biggest ever yuletide events, centred around – for the first time ever – a co-ordinated Christmas lights switch-on between St Paul's, Regent Street and Oxford Circus, prior to the worldwide premiere of the film in Leicester Square.
ADI supplied six screens across the capital as hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets for an evening of great entertainment and Christmas shopping! All of the screens were from ADI's smaller urban iCONIC range, including three iCONIC 12s, two iCONIC 15s and an iCONIC 25, which have all been designed with the city environment in mind, with low screen heights and small footprint.
With the busy city centre streets only closing for traffic shortly before the evening's events, the smaller iCONICs' excellent manoeuvrability and quick setup times were vital. The screens were able to move into position and be up and running within 30 minutes and were able to derig just as quickly at the end of the events, allowing the roads to re-open to traffic quickly.
All of ADI's screens were powered by their onboard generators, with footage provided via microwave links. With a different Disney star at each location, Jim Carrey, Bob Hoskins and Colin Firth each flicked the Christmas lights switch at exactly 6.17pm to cheers and applause across the capital.
Customer Comment
"Having organised the Oxford Street lights for the past 13 years, this year was the biggest event by far as it involved three different sites. Everything went to plan and ADI's screens were an important part of entertaining as many people as possible in quite restricted areas. With the streets only being shut an hour either side of the event, the fact that the screens could be setup and derigged quickly was a major selling point."
