ADI regularly provide LED screens for the world’s largest half-marathon, The Bupa Great North Run, with a total of five screens for this year’s event in Tyneside.

Aptly for the world’s largest half-marathon, ADI’s provided the world’s largest mobile LED screen, with the iCONIC 100 joined by sister iCONIC 60 and iCONIC 15 screens.

Mobile LED screens are a must for this event, as the weekend includes junior races on the Saturday before Sunday’s main event, and the differing routes require different screens positions. The quick setup time of the iCONIC screens were essential for the urban environment, with the screens needing to be moved at night time as different roads were closed off in the major North East city centre.

Come the Sunday morning, ADI’s iCONIC 100 and 60s were interspersed at 200m intervals along the central reservation of the dual carriageway that forms the start of the race. Nova International took advantage of the ability to easily rotate the iCONIC 60 and 100s screens. With the runners walking up in the opposite direction to which they would run prior to the race, the three giant screens were turned to face them and used to display important safety information to the runners, as well as play out a live warm-up to the 50,000 runners lined up ready to race.

At the finish line ADI provided a further 40m mobile LED screen, as well as one of their iCONIC 15 LED screens for South Tyneside Council, which was situated close to the Pasta Village at the finish. With both of the back-to-back screens of the iCONIC 15 running, it was able to keep spectators up to date from all angles, with live footage from the BBC running throughout the day, as well as computer generated information and council DVDs.
