Great North Run

ADI are long-term suppliers to The Bupa Great North Run, the world's biggest half-marathon, having provided outdoor screens to them for nearly a decade.
For this year's race, ADI supplied a total of seven screens and outside broadcast teams throughout Newcastle and Gateshead for the weekend, which includes not only The Bupa Great North Run on the Sunday, but also The Great Junior Run and the Great North City Games on the Saturday.
The Great North City Games is a relatively new addition to the line-up and sees some of the world's top athletes competing on a purpose built track and field area on the banks of the Tyne – a popular event that draws large crowds both locally and on television.
For the first time, The 2010 Great North City Games included ADI's innovative iFLY mobile LED screen, which was located behind the 150m running track, with the screen floating above the end of the track, enabling the event to have an additional screen in a tight position that wouldn't have been suited to a traditional design of mobile screen.
As well as the iFLY, the weekend also featured a number of other screens from across the iCONIC range. With screens needing to move to different locations throughout the weekend, the quick setup times of the iCONIC screens were essential.
ADI screens were most prominent at the start of the race, with four screens along the central reservation of the dual carriageway which held 54,000 runners ready to start the race. ADI also provided a further iCONIC 60 at the finish line and another iCONIC 12 in South Tyneside. The screens ran a mixture of content from ADI's on-site cameras, graphics and live coverage from the BBC, all mixed from within the control rooms of ADI's iCONIC screens.
