Continuing the trend of supplying screens to the world's leading sporting events, the past three years have seen ADI become exclusive provider to the world's largest marathon, The Virgin London Marathon.
This year ADI supplied three different LED screens for the start of the race in Greenwich Park, along with a three camera outside broadcast to film live content for the screens.
With 35,000 runners from a number of different categories, The Virgin London Marathon features three different start lines spread over a 2km area. ADI provided a screen for each, with a huge iCONIC 100 at the Blue main startline, a slightly smaller iCONIC 60 at the Red startline and a smaller double-side iCONIC 15 at the Green startline, which was reserved for race VIPs.
With the startlines spread over such a large distance, ADI also setup microwave links to send audio and video from OB facilities to the screens. The screens were there for two reasons: to entertain runners in the build up to the start and also to educate them of important safety procedures and pre-race information. Each screen ran a mixture of content including live coverage from ADI's OB and also from BBC cameras, pre-prepared highlights packages, good luck messages and sponsors' messages. As well as this, the screens each had their own mixing facilities, enabling them to mix in informational content specific to their startline, such as assembly times and locations of baggage trucks etc, which was backed up by local commentators at each site.
