ADI LED screens played a significant part in broadcasting the world's biggest sporting events in 2010.

As the FIFA World Cup came to the African continent for the first time ADI's screens were used to broadcast the tournament across South Africa in a number of fan parks.  ADI Virtuality LED screens and digiSCORE scoreboards had also been installed in two of the official tournament venues (read about it here), making ADI one of the largest suppliers of LED products to the World Cup and making it a particularly successful tournament for ADI South Africa.

Both the stadium LED installations and the hired LED screens for the fan parks were managed and fulfilled by ADI's South African business which operates from headquarters in Cape town.  ADI supplied screens for four fan parks in total, situated throughout the Western Cape.

The fan parks were part of an initiative to bring the biggest sporting event South Africa had ever seen to the whole nation to allow everyone to "Touch the World Cup".  This meant taking the sport to the rural communities via fan parks, which were free to enter and helped bring the stadium atmosphere to the local townships.

ADI SA were contracted by the Western Cape Government to provide the screens at four ‘FanJols' across the region: George, Beaufort West, Vredenburg and Bredasdorp.  For each FanJol, ADI provided a brand new Virtuality modular LED screen which was built to hang from a goalpost structure and would stay in place and broadcast key matches throughout the whole tournament.

The FanJols proved to be a great success and also featured stage areas with local singers, dancers and acts from the local communities to entertain crowds before and between matches.
