When Capital and Regional Properties plc built Europe’s largest indoor snow-complex, The ADI Group were contracted to provide a total audio-visual solution for the huge leisure development. As well as a 100m ‘real-snow’ slope, Xscape features a 16-screen cinema, bowling alley, night club, health club and indoor climbing wall, as well as an extensive shopping mall.

ADI designed and installed a multi-channel remotely controlled and programmed installation comprising of 7 zones.

The system includes 20 plasma screens and full multi-channel sound systems running throughout the malls, climbing wall and emporium, as well as a 31m² LED screen mounted above the main entrance. ADI also took control of all on-screen content, creating a strongly branded bespoke channel in the form of Xscape TV, managed via a remote access fast download ISDN from off-site, to allow greater flexibility.

The Xscape installation was designed to run autonomously, but with scope for ultimate versatility and control. Split into 7 zones, the plasmas and sound systems run different scripts for different areas of the complex. For instance, customers arriving at Xscape are greeted by different on-screen content to those leaving, whilst the LED screen acts as an enticement to passers-by. Whilst the zones are fully automated, there is the facility for management to easily override settings via a custom control system in the management suite, allowing for maximum flexibility.
