STADIUM MATCHDAY CONTENT REBRAND HELPS ASTON VILLA CELEBRATE MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY
Aston Villa’s FA Cup match against West Ham took on extra special meaning this month, as the club marked a monumental 150th birthday with a massive celebration at Villa Park. ADI helped mark the occasion with the creation of bespoke digital assets for the stadium screens and signage, as well a special timeline video pre-match show.
The programming was based around a commemorative rebrand of Villa’s crest and kit – created by the Club to honour the occasion – modelled on the first kits worn by the players before the transition to their famous claret and blue colours. The players took to the field in the distinctive kit, which featured all-black shirts, shorts and socks with a bold red lion crest.
ADI worked in close partnership with Aston Villa to create a whole new set of video assets based around the commemorative assets, fonts and colour palette, covering everything from welcome messages, scoreboards and team sheets through to goal celebration stings.
The match featured a very special pre-match programme in the build-up to kick-off, featuring a lightshow and pyrotechnics accompanying bespoke-created video made as part of a collaboration between ADI and Aston Villa.
Central to the content was a timeline celebrating the biggest moment’s from the club’s rich history which ran across the stadium’s huge digital platform of screens, digital perimeter, ribbons and signs. This emotive piece was themed around the famous Gaslamp; under which – as legend has it – the club was formed a century and a half ago.
As the pre-match show came to a conclusion and the players took to the pitch, a huge Aston Villa commemorative crest flag was raised as the fireworks rained overhead. Villa would go onto record a memorable 2-1 win, befitting the celebratory mood of this historic evening.

FULL REBRAND
This special occasion was marked with a complete commemorative rebrand of kit and crest, harking back to the club’s original designs and featuring their original black and red colour palette, before they adopted their famous claret and blue kits.
ADI followed suit, completely recreating every digital asset to based around the new colour palette, crest and font. These provided co-ordinated content that covered all platforms within the stadium and – with the club’s principal partners Betano and Trade Nation both kindly donating branding space back to the club for the fixture – featured prominently throughout the match.

Connected Stadium Digital Platform
The content made full use of the vast digital stadium platform that ADI installed at Villa Park at the start of this season. As well as the two stadium screens, it includes a four-sided, high resolution digiBOARD digital perimeter system, multiple mid-tier digital ribbons, as well digitisation of more of the vomitory signage around the stadium stairwells.
Because all of the platforms are installed and operated by ADI, we are able to utilise them either separately or as a joined up asset, allowing playout of content to be synchronised throughout the whole stadium to dramatic effect.
Villa Park also benefits from being connected to ADI’s Live Venue broadcast fibre network, allowing a full matchday production to be driven from galleries at ADI’s Lancashire-based HQ.
