Hot on the heels of the Great North Run, the ADI team have supplied a variety of mass participation events and marathons that have returned for 2021. With a host of cancellations last year it’s been fantastic to see some of the UK and Europe’s most popular running events back and better than ever, including the London Marathon, Royal Parks Half Marathon, Hackney Moves Festival, Brighton Marathon and the Paris Marathon, to name just a few.
ADI deployed solutions that featured a unique combination of event production, broadcast, LED screens, connectivity and creative content, using our huge pedigree in live sport to help keep both runners and spectators engaged.
Giant LED screens and digital signage are essential for large audience communication and crowd management at this type of ‘mass’ event, and they also have a crucial role in delivering effective, high impact activations for sponsors and brand advertisers.
tHE London marathon
With the 2020 race restricted to elite athletes, this year’s instalment of the London Marathon was once again a mass participation event featuring over 40,000 runners – with around 40,000 also taking part virtually.
ADI’s ties with the London Marathon stretch back over 13 years, and our services have grown and evolved over that time to meet the requirements of a modern-day, globally broadcast sports event. Mobile LED screens, digital signage, camera teams, connectivity and broadcast facilities were part of a site-wide solution from the ADI team, who produced and broadcast a live pre-marathon programme across the warm-up zones to motivate runners. iCONIC screens dotted around the course and finish were also there to boost runners, but importantly they also promoted sponsors and charity partners in front of the huge sea of participants, as well as international TV audiences.
RUN EXPERIENCE, PARIS
Over in the France, 2021’s Paris Marathon saw the launch of a new pre-event expo; Run Experience. Held at Porte de Versailles exhibition site, Run Experience saw the ADI team deliver creative applications in modular LED displays, including a large, high resolution digital gantry for the trainer ‘Testing Zone’, and a smaller modular screen for a mini event stage for presentation and seminars.
