Record attendance as ADI support the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final for a third year

It was a new attendance record (50,827) at the San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao as Barcelona became back-to-back winners of the UEFA Women’s Champions League title. An incredible atmosphere inside the venue was enhanced by vibrant ceremonies, designed and delivered for the third year running by ADI.

With a record-breaking sell-out crowd in the stadium, and more than 3.6 million viewers on DAZN, the popularity of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final is at an all time high, and still growing! As part of our on-going contract ADI were commissioned by UEFA to deliver ceremonial presentation that matched the prestige of this international occasion, with custom choreography, creative and costumes, and many more elements that formed the Opening Ceremony and Cup Celebration Ceremony.

Opening Ceremony

ADI’s inhouse and experienced sports presentation team collaborated with UEFA to evolve the themes and creative from previous ceremonies, with the over-arching brand campaign, “there are many Queens but there is only one Crown”.

To kick-off the ceremony traditional Basque Txalaparta musicians took to the pitch with an energetic call to arms. Bright colours including blue, red and gold were incorporated in the costumes, flags and SFX, reflecting the vibrancy of host city Bilbao.

Over 140 dancers, volunteers and ceremony makers were part of the choreography, which also had nods to local culture with the forming of the Basque Cross on pitch. The ceremony culminated in the visual of a crown and banner reveal of the two club’s crests.

ADI are also commissioned to produce the in-stadium creative displayed across the big screens and digital perimeter. Fully synchronised and branded content ran across the entire stadium LED platform, with ADI producing a special ‘Opening Ceremony’ hype video to get fans ready for kick off (footage below).

Historic Celebrations

As Barcelona took the title for a second-year running, ADI were responsible for coordinating the Cup Ceremony and resulting celebrations. While Finalist medals were given to both the Lyon and Barcelona teams, the atmosphere built towards the trophy-lift by the winners with a dazzling display of confetti and SFX, coordinated with the stadium LED creative and audio track.

An explosion of colour, movement and energy helped create the powerful impact of the Opening to a Final. We were able to incorporate the local culture of the host city and wider region, while celebrating the Finalists and reinforcing the Tournament's brand messaging. Supported by incredible custom content for the venue's digital platforms, we helped create a truly memorable matchday for the record number of spectators that attended.
