Enhancing the Leisure Experience: The importance of Digital Signage and Wayfinding screens

In the realm of leisure and entertainment venues, providing seamless navigation and captivating information is key to enhancing visitor experiences. The integration of digital signage and wayfinding screens has emerged as a game-changer. From amusement parks to museums, city centre leisure destinations and attractions to sports stadiums; digital technology has revolutionised the way visitors interact with their surroundings.

Here are six reasons why digital signage and wayfinding screens are indispensable in leisure venues:

1.Navigational Ease

Leisure venues can be daunting to navigate, especially for first time visitors. Digital wayfinding screens can act as virtual guides, displaying interactive maps and real-time directions, eliminating confusion and frustration. Visitors can focus on enjoying their experience, rather than getting lost!

In City Centres, clear and attention-grabbing digital signage for brands or attractions such as restaurants or theatres, is vital to help customers locate their favourite food chain or encourage an un-planned visit.

2.Information Accessibility

In today’s digital age, guests expect instant access to information. Digital signage and wayfinding screens provide a centralised platform for disseminating relevant information such as event schedules, attraction descriptions, dining options, and safety protocols. With just a glance, visitors can make informed decisions, enhancing their overall satisfaction and convenience.

For individuals with disabilities or special needs, traditional signage might not always be sufficient. Digital signage can accommodate various accessibility features such as screen readers, adjustable text sizes, and audiovisual aids, ensuring that everyone can access important information and navigate the venue with ease.

3.Enhanced Visitor Engagement

Digital signage serves as a powerful medium for communication and engagement; whether it’s promoting upcoming events, highlighting special offers, or showcasing captivating content. By delivering dynamic and visually appealing content, leisure venues can encourage guests to explore the venue or brands further. An example of this would be providing QR codes on screens for easy access to apps, special offers or interactive games.

Leisure venues can also leverage digital signage to deliver targeted messages tailored to specific audiences, demographics or change offers for a certain time of the day – providing directions or promotions for coffee in the morning for example. A theme park can use digital signage to promote special offers on merchandise or upcoming events. Sports stadiums can display real-time scores and statistics on digital signage screens situated in the stadium concourse keeping fans informed and engaged at all times, enhancing the stadium experience.

Additional technology such as heat-mapping cameras, touch, sound reactive or gesture-recognition technology, paired with reactive, engaging content, can take digital signage to the next level, providing audiences with a personalised and more engaging experience. In addition, all these enhanced experiences lead to longer dwell times, and better commercial opportunities for venues.

4.Real-Time Updates and Flexibility

One of the significant advantages of digital signage is its ability to deliver real-time updates. Whether it’s changes in event schedules, weather conditions, or emergency notifications, digital screens can instantly convey important information to visitors. This flexibility is invaluable in dynamic leisure environments where schedules and circumstances can change rapidly.

The flexibility of digital displays also offers a more sustainable and cost-effective solution in the long-run. With digital signage, there’s no need to constantly reprint materials or manually update information, saving time and resources. Additionally, the versatility of digital screens allows venues to repurpose content and adapt messaging without incurring additional expenses.

5.Operational Efficiency

Beyond enhancing the guest experience, digital signage and wayfinding screens contribute to the operational efficiency of leisure venues. By streamlining communication with staff and visitors, these screens facilitate smoother operations, reducing bottlenecks and improving resource allocation. Additionally, remote management capabilities allow venue operators to update content in real-time, ensuring that information remains accurate and up-to-date without requiring manual intervention.

6.Future-proofing the Venue

In an increasingly competitive landscape, leisure venues should be embracing digital signage and wayfinding screens as essential tools for elevating the overall guest journey. Investing in digital signage and wayfinding screens is not just about meeting current needs; it’s also about future-proofing the venue. These scalable solutions can adapt to evolving needs, ensuring that the venue remains relevant and competitive in the long run, with more opportunities to provide interactive experiences, innovation and creativity.

CASE STUDY: Printworks Manchester

277 m² of digital signage installed along Printworks roofline to replace static signage as part of the Printworks Manchester digital transformation, alongside multiple indoor wayfinding Screens.

As part of the digital improvements at Printworks Manchester, ADI installed a huge ‘Ribbon’ that spans the facade of the historic building.

The ribbon joins the previous installation and launch of the two huge DOOH screens on Withy Grove and Dantzic Street and offers a powerful dynamic platform to promote the many and varied attractions within Printworks, showcasing tenant brands located in the Printworks building. The screens face onto both Withy Grove and Corporation Street, providing maximum visibility to the significant passing footfall in the heart of Manchester’s City Centre.

The digital ribbon comprises fourteen individual LED Screens; each screen is 2.5 metres high, with a variety in length to accommodate each section of the building roofline. The screens were built using ADI’s proprietary 10mm MT Series product, ensuring exceptional image quality and reliability.

The external facade of the historic building, previously covered with a variety of static neon signage, has now been decluttered, and any changes to tenant branding can now be altered at the touch of a button, providing a longer-term sustainable solution.

Internally, in addition to the huge 1000m² digital ceiling, ADI has installed multiple LCD wayfinding screens throughout the Printworks concourse, providing guests with venue information, exclusive content and tenant promotions. The wayfinding screens also provide additional brand commercial opportunities as part of a ‘Total Venue Takeover’. Incorporating the wayfinding screens, plus the huge digital ceiling and pump yard screen to coordinate captivating content, creates a lasting impact on audiences for advertisers.
